Self-Catering Holiday Cottages in the Peak District National Park, England, UK
Our cottages have consistently achieved the grading of 4 Stars from the English Tourism Council, but despite this we have constantly striven to improve the furnishings, the equipment and the finishes to the cottages. Likewise the range of facilities offered are also constantly being improved, with for example full 'SKY' programmes being offered in three cottages, wifi available in all but one and cycles being available for hire at very modest cost. For more information on these facilities offered, please click on the link to the left marked 'facilities'.
4 cottages have gloss work-tops, and the Milking parlour and the Hay Store has stone work-tops); they all have solid oak kitchen units, halogen cookers (excellent for near instantaneous heat) dishwashers and real stone granite sinks. All but the Hay Store and the Milking Parlour has a second tv in one of the bedrooms.
The Dairy - sleeps 2
This really spacious cottage has a large sized bathroom with Italian floor tiles, containing a five piece suite (separate shower cubicle and bidet), and a similarly well equipped kitchen. Above these two rooms is a genuinely good sized galleried bedroom with sufficient headroom all the way between the eaves (behind the banistairs in the picture to the right).
This overlooks a large open plan lounge (twenty feet by twenty feet), rising to the rafter, in the centre of which is a log burner standing on a stone plinth - a focal feature in the middle of the room. Some of the stone walls are exposed, as are the extensive wood beams. The floors are stone flags, with appropriate quality rug coverings. The cottage benefits from central heating, full Sky programmes and Sky Plus, with a second tv in the bedroom also receiving all Sky programmes
The cottage has a sun room (not shown on the exterior photo, as this was only built recently, and which is positioned on the patio on the right side of the exterior photo) with superb views, similar in fact to that on the aerial view on our location page. By clicking on the 'Britains Best Breaks' logo, near to the top right of this page, you access a 20 second video of Cotterill Farm and the last three seconds has a shot of the interior of the Dairy, taken from the galleried bedroom. This cottage has actually been graded with sufficient points as would ordinarily entitle it to a 5 star grading, but the lack of a washing machine in the cottage (there are two in the shared laundry room) precludes such a grading, however the points awarded reflects the quality. (Indeed this points award was given before the construction and significant improvement to the cottage by the erection this year of the sunroom). This cottage was also given 'the Gold Award' in the grading process even before this extension.
Dale View - sleeps 4
So named, because of the views of the surrounding dales. This cottage has an upstairs lounge (featuring a substantial impressive old exposed beam) and kitchen area to take advantage of the views.
Downstairs are two bedrooms. The principal bedroom can be made up either as a twin or a king sized double. This bedroom has an modern en-suite bathroom (with underfloor heating), whereas the second double bedroom has a shower room immediately adjacent to it. There are two means of entry and exit, on the ground floor or up attractive external stone steps to the living area (with of course an internal flight of stairs as well).
There are two TVs, which have full Sky programmes. The supplementary log effect heater adds to the superb atmosphere of this cottage. Like the Dairy this too achieved sufficient points as would ordinarily bring it within the 5 star band, but for the same reason it could only be given four star but the quality of this one too has also been recognised in the grading process with a 'Gold Award'
Liffs Cottage - Sleeps 3
This cottage, like its adjoining neighbour, Dale View, fronts on to a grassed area and beyond are fields, dales and rolling hills, (accessible via a squeeze stile near the adjacent off road-parking area).
This cottage also has a partly exposed old beam but has the more conventional layout of lounge/kitchen on the ground floor and the two bedrooms and a fully equipped bathroom - bath with shower over - on the first floor. Again, there are two TVs, one of them with full Sky programmes.
The Milking Parlour - sleeps 3
This is the ground floor of a barn converted in 2006, - upstairs is 'the Hay Store' but guests should have no need to worry about noise transmission, as we have comfortably exceeded what are in any event the latest very strict building control noise transmission requirements, with the installation of an independently hanging ceiling and a false floor. The Milking Parlour has two bedrooms, one double and one single, and a quality truly spacious shower room with under-floor heating - with appropriately large shower cubicle. This is en-suite to both bedrooms - in other words there are two doors into the shower room.
The living area is extremely comfortable and and has as a focal point a sympathetic log effect stove (not the old fashioned type that were less sympathetic). The purpose of this stove is principally to add to the atmoshperic effect as the central heating (as with the other letting units with central heating, this is fully under the control of guests) combined with the very latest insulation techniques ensures that this is an extremely warm cottage in even the deepest of winters.
The Milking Parlour has just that much a higher specification and somewhat more floor area than Liffs Cottage, and thus has been given literally maximum points within a 15 point band for four star, so just one point short of five star and also of course been given the 'Gold Award'
The Hay Store
This letting unit is above the Milking Parlour. It is the largest of all our cottages, and perhaps the highest quality. Certainly the beams are out of this world. It has two bedrooms, both with double beds, although really it works best as a two person cottage, as the second bedroom is in the mezannine area, and there is a loss of privacy with this bedroom, as it partially overlooks the living area. There is a seperate page on this cottage, please click onto www.cotterillfarm.co.uk/haystore Needless to say, it too has been given the 'Gold Award' in the grading process.
Cotterill Farm Barn - sleeps 4
We used to keep this cottage in the first instance for repeats and regulars, but are now making it available to all. This is the cottage that is not in the grading process.
The cottage, like Dale View, is an 'upside-down' cottage with the bedrooms being on the ground floor. The principal bedroom is spacious and has an en-suite, occupants of the second adjoining bedroom (officially a twin, but can be made up as a double) have to use the shower room upstairs, although this has the advantage therefore for those of restricted mobility that there are facilities on both floors.
Upstairs is a living room and a separate dining/kitchen. There are two tvs but this is our one cottage without wifi facilities (although guests anxious to log on can do so elsewhere within our complex, indeed perhaps directly outside the cottage itself).
Again we have a web-page setting out a couple of additional photographs and with quite of bit more information related solely to this cottage, view it by clicking here.
